Sexual Attitudes Deep in the Heart of Texas
A Survey of Austin Teenagers and Parents of Teens Regarding Sex
Early in 2009, Austin LifeGuard commissioned a study of Austin teens and parents of teens to capture a baseline measurement of attitudes and behaviors between the two groups regarding such issues as sex, STDs and other key issues affecting the development of young people in these formative years.
The telephone survey captured a random sample of the two populations, using two different list sources for the study. Parental permission was secured before each teen interview.
The following reflects the sample size of each audience:
Teens 223
Parents of Teens 142
Total 365
The total sample represents 13 Austin area high schools. The study includes two target audiences: Teens, 14-18 years old, and Parents of at least one teen, ages 14-18 years old. There was an approximate 50/50 quota of male/female Teens. The Parent sample was 32 percent male and 68 percent female. The research reflects a combined margin of error of ±5.1 at a 95 percent confidence level.
